Our Music Therapist must lead music therapy groups and have the ability to observe the response of persons participating in the group to determine appropriate modifications. He/She must be able to provide individualized and group therapeutic sessions to Residents based on psychosocial needs or interdisciplinary team referral. 


  • Maintain a clean, neat appearance and wear the appropriate uniform or attire.
  • Must observe Resident attendance, mood, behavior, and degree of involvement so that facility activities and resident progress are evaluated by noting, reporting and charting resident behavior during groups or sessions.
  • Ensure that all charted musical therapy progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and indicate the resident's response to the service.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information (HIPAA).
  • Maintain a neat and clean work environment.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary.
  • Involve the resident/family in planning musical therapy sessions, objectives and goals when possible.
  • Coordinate and plan groups as a part of an expressive arts team consisting of dance and movement therapist(s) and art therapist(s). 
  • Participate in the community planning related to the interest of the facility and the services and needs of the resident and family.
  • Must participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of activity care plans and resident assessments.
  • Perform administrative requirements, such as completing forms, reports, etc., and submitting such to the Director of Life Enrichment as required.
  • Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Experience working with older adults preferred, but not required.
  • Musical Experience of 1+ year is preferred 
  • Able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions and to accept constructive criticism.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel
  • Patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
