Norwood Life Society is a nonprofit healthcare organization specializing in quality senior care. Our facilities are located on the northwest side of Chicago in the wonderful neighborhood of Norwood Park.

Our organization is seeking a full-time Controller to lead our acounting team.

Our ideal candidate will pride themselves on displaying professionalism and would be a hands on working manager who is a self starter. 

 

The Controller directs all accounting operations including accounts receivable and billing, financial reporting, payroll, and accounts payable functions. The Controller will work in close partnership with the CFO to ensure that the organization has the systems and procedures in place to produce accurate and timely financial reporting, ensure compliance with applicable government and regulatory reporting requirements, oversee accounts receivable, analyze financial data, identify cost saving opportunities and recommend actions to enhance profitability.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all accounting functions are performed in an accurate, complete and timely manner in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP)
  • Maintain accurate accounting records for all company transactions and safeguard company assets. Maintain a strong and effective system of internal financial controls for the organization
  • Work with accounting firm to prepare regulatory reports for Medicaid, Medicare, grants and other programs.
  • Preparation of audit work papers and coordination of audit with outside accounting firm.
  • Oversee monthly billing for Medicare, Medicaid and other billing sources.
  • Review of account and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare responses to requests for financial information and statistics from outside agencies including cost reports. Ensure compliance with applicable contract and regulatory reporting requirement
  • Management of the team includes responsibility for planning, coordinating, and controlling the work and procedures, and providing advice/coaching to staff. Will also be the backup for key positions.
  • Create an environment that encourages and supports development and learning for staff through regular feedback, coaching, training, work experiences, and performance management
  • Communicates regularly with the CFO regarding all major issues impacting financial operations and reporting

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required, CPA or Master's Degree preferred
  • Ten (10) plus years of commensurate work experience including staff leadership and oversight of the accounting function
  • Experience in a long term health care environment strongly preferred
  • Experience with accounting software packages and data manipulation required
  • Financial management skills, including analysis of operation results, financial reporting, budgeting, strong accounting knowledge
  • Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
