Assistant Administrator at Norwood Crossing

Norwood Crossing has been serving seniors on the Northwest side of Chicago, on a not-for-profit basis, for over 120 years. We are seeking a leader to join our established team who possesses the natural desire to make a difference in the lives of others each day. 

The Assistant Administrator will report to the Administrator of Norwood Crossing.  This position will involve evenings and weekend coverage.   If you are a self-motivated, results-driven, experienced professional with exceptional skills, we want to talk to you!

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist department directors in the development, use, and implementation of departmental policies and procedures and professional standards of practice
  • Ensure that all employees, residents, visitors, and the general public follow the facility's established policies and procedures
  • Assist with daily meetings with appropriate staff during facility inspections to discuss survey findings and formulation of plans of action/correction
  • Assist in developing plans of correction for cited deficiencies. Ensure such plans incorporate timetables and methods of monitoring to ensure that such deficiencies do not recur.
  • Review and check competence of workforce and recommend adjustments/corrections as required or that may become necessary
  • Assist in recruitment and selection of competent department directors, supervisors, facility non-licensed staff, consultants, etc.
  • Counsel/discipline personnel as requested or as may become necessary
  • Consult with department directors concerning the operation of their departments to assist in eliminating/correcting problem areas, and/or improvement of services
  • Assist department directors in the topic selection, planning, conducting, and scheduling of in-service training classes and on-the-job training and orientation programs to assure that current material and programs are continuously provided
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Four year college or university degree required
  • Must have a working knowledge of Long Term Care Federal and State regulations, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Direct Previous Experience:

  • Two years of Healthcare Management experience required.


  • Must possess demonstrated skills related to management, planning, budgeting, marketing and quality improvement.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills, demonstrate the ability to understand, interpret and uphold policies.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) plus the willingness to learn other computer programs as required.
  • Ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
  • Must conduct all business with a professional manner and with a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record as specified by the Company and by the Company's automobile insurance carrier.
  • Must have strong background in long term care with a proven track record.
  • Must be able to develop or expand programs or services for Residents.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and effectively handle complaints and concerns from Residents, families, staff, and external agencies



 Work indoors for the majority of the work day (fluorescent lights, HVAC system, carpeted/vinyl flooring).

  • Climb up to 2-3 flights of stairs occasionally.
  • Lift objects of 25 pounds or less over the head.
  • Move objects of 40 pounds or less occasionally.
  • Ability to work in time-sensitive or stressful situations.
  • Sit in a chair / stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in all areas of the campus.
  • Ability to assist with resident evacuations.
